City of Unley public art commission – ‘elemental’

March 11th, 2016

In late June 2015 I completed the installation of ‘elemental‘, my multi-part galvanised steel installation at Forestville Reserve near the Unley Swimming Centre. This was my second public art commission following the bicycle stands commissioned by the City of Prospect in 2009.

The Art of Open Air – 2014 Heysen Sculpture Biennial

August 6th, 2014

Dr Christine Nicholls of Flinders University documented the 2014 Heysen Sculpture Biennial for the Spring 2014 edition of World Sculpture News. A partial photograph of my work, ‘It became personal – Catharsis’, is shown on page 38 of Dr Nicholls’ review, and comments about how my work affected a viewer is quoted on the following page of the article, “… I was almost moved to tears…”

I don’t think any other sculpture of mine has elicited such a response before. But my motivation to make this sculpture was deadly serious.

Disclaimer – I am the chair of the Heysen Sculpture Biennial committee however we asked that works by the committee in the exhibition not be given any special recognition in the review. Comments were unsolicited and independant.

Read Dr Nicholls’ review at: 2014 Heysen Sculpture Biennial – World Sculpture News.

Details of all the works exhibited are found at: 2014 Heysen Sculpture Biennial works.
